February 10, 2006 - Transco, the leading localization service provider in Asia, launches Open Source Translation Technology Initiative (OSTTI) and releases the website http://www.ostti.net as a platform hosting the open source translation tools development projects and community.
Adopting GForge with full line of project management and team collaboration tools, OSTTI.net is the first open source development platform which dedicates to translation or localization related projects. The featured OSTTI Newsletter is the only mail list that focuses on the open source development of translation tools, and it will provide the most complete and timely information to the community.
"Today’s translation technology cannot meet the demands for faster and better translation. Disappointed with the poor affordability and functionality of commercial tools, more and more people are considering using or developing open source translation tools," said Denver Wu, Translation Technology Manager of Transco. “Open source development cannot replace the traditional and closed model, but we believe it is a helpful supplement and may benefit the whole industry.”
“Further more we believe that a healthy community is key to the success. To this end, we bring OSTTI as a place where the open source translation tools users and developers may gather and cluster. Finally OSTTI will form an extensive and active community that plays an important role in developing new translation technology for the language industry. It will impact every player in our industry, positively.”
